Congrats on the recent DJ mag cover CD. We love the CD art. How did you come up with such a unique design?
As our label is called ‘Animal Language’, we wanted to create a family of animals, from which we present new ones every release. It’s becoming more and more fun to work on too! The Animal Language name comes from an old Lou Reed song.

Well we both really collect all sorts of music fanatically, from Hawaian aloha to 100 year old Greek island music, so there’s too much angles to choose from. In general I think people are way too focused on a few trendy new bands of today, while there’s so much great music behind us, coming from all corners of the world
Your new track Runaway. Is that you Iason on the violin? We’ve heard you are a great violinist. Tell us a little about the inspiration behind this track and how it was put together.
No, its an old german disco sample we’ve played around with! We’re busy on building a new live show, so we generate a lot of new material. Everything that sticks we release on Animal Language, such as this one. The crowd reaction is just mad when I play it, so can’t wait to have it released!
Who killed trance, one of your new tracks. Such a great progressive melodic track. Many people say that hip hop is dead. Some people say trance is way too commercial these days and on it’s way out. Having worked in such a different variety of genres, how do you feel about Trance these days?
Well Trance isn’t really something we’re into, but we are both suckers for melodies, which leaded to tracks like Who Killed Trance, or Artex. Everybody always expected trance to conquer the rest of the world (like the USA), but it now seems people like David Guetta are mixing much better with the hiphop scene and other genres.
Where sound would go to in 5 or 10 years it’s hard to tell – it always is a bit of a cycle from very explosive music to subtle and trippy stuff. However I do feel after 20 years people are getting a bit bored of seeing another DJ play, and live bands and other forms of entertainment is becoming bigger and bigger.
Every Mason interview we have to mention Exceeder. From past interviews we found out that the “vocal” version came from a bootleg which was eventually released. Who was responsible for this bootleg? And why were you scared about its release? What’s your opinion on this version of the track? ?
I’ve no idea who did the initial bootleg, but Ministry Of Sound did it properly with Princess Superstar after that bootleg was going around on the internet for a while. It wasn’t something I’d play, but after Exceeder had been buzzed in clubs for that whole summer it made sense to do something that suited radio a bit better.
So What do you think about the new Felguk remix of exceeder?
Very well done, but not really something I’d play myself either.
You often say that you are trying to reintroduce humor into your music as a key ingredient. This is obviously a very unique way to look at music. Tell us what you mean by this?
Going out is about having fun, which some people tend to forget once in a while, and we think music should contribute to this. Other people can take care of the repetitive techhouse stuff, but we like to keep our music and dj sets a bit hysteric, fun and crazy

Underworld - Always Loved A Film (DJ Madskillz Dark Movie remix) [OM Records]
In these days of endless band reformations, avalanches of reissues and shamelessly repetitious 'creativity', too many artists are willing to sign away their soul for a little extra time on the career clock. Too many of them see artistic expression not as an end in itself, but as a shortcut to celebrity and are obsessed with their destination, rather than engaged by the journey. Too few of them, frankly, are like Underworld. An incredible 27 years after their birth in Romford, Essex as a trio and 15 years after they pressed up their debut single (500 copies of the Balearic twofer, 'Mother Earth'/'The Hump'), Rick Smith and Karl Hyde are still enjoying the ride, grinning like kids as new vistas unfold before them. It's been a long and exhilarating trip – and it's not over yet.

Fingerfest Inc. - Autoporno (D.Ramirez & Mara 2010 remix) [Wazzup Records]
Post-industrial Sheffield has long been a source of innovative, emotional and revolutionary electronic music. From the 80s synths of Human League to the legendary Warp label, the city's pedigree is undeniable. Sheffield duo Mara share that pedigree. Barry Gilbey and Sarah WG first emerged as superstars of the progressive-house scene in 1997, releasing music on their newly-launched label Choo Choo Records. The label became a go-to destination for fans of the progressive-house scene, and Mara and Choo Choo releases soon found their way onto Global Underground compilations by scene leaders like Deep Dish. Mara's success as producers and label owners set them on a neverending cycle of huge gigs and international flights. Playing to packed clubs across the world, from Miami to Moscow and Hong Kong to Budapest, they took the Choo Choo sound to every corner of the globe. Their finest moment of the noughties came with the release of their debut album, If You Only Knew. The accomplished 12-track CD perfectly encapsulated the diverse electronic sound Mara and Choo Choo had become known for. Energised by their break from the studio and punishing tour schedule, Mara have a new arsenal of electronic material ready to drop, that's already been showcased to lucky fans at a number of secret gigs across Europe. Tomcraft - Room 414 (Cant Get Away) (Tube & Berger remix) [Great Stuff Recordings]
A crazed scuba diver practices dance moves above London - at the latest since this video and the accompanying track "Straight Ahead" featuring Chrissie Hynde (The Pretenders) Tube & Berger have made themselves a name in the dance business. Instead of lying low and resting on the laurels of their success across Europe now, they're touring - and spending every free moment at the studios. "In addition to Tube & Berger some projects with other artists are also in the pipeline at the moment. The legendary Afrika Islaam joined T&B in their studio and they released Buttonpusher on Alphabet City. In fact there is an ever growing list of remixes the guys made. To mention all of them would be just too crazy. Seeing Tube & Berger live is a perfect opportunity to escape from the average Saturday night dj set. They combine a live act with djing, they play never heard self made bootlegs and the freshest club tunes. With good support by several names in the business, one can easily see the direction this is heading - it just keeps going 'Straight Ahead' for the two guys from Germany.

Nalin & Kane - Beachball (Joris Voorn remix) [Superfly Records]
It is nearly 15 years ago, when the very first original version of "Beachball" was played in a club by Andry Nalin, one part of Nalin & Kane. It was a cool underground club track at that time, but it always had something very special. The rest is, as we say, history: "Beachball" caused a stir, it hit all dancefloors worldwide, a vocal version followed and it became one of the biggest club tracks in dance history. Now, 15 years later, Supraton and Nalin & Kane bring that tune back to where it came from: Back to the clubs. With the help of some of the hottest producers around at the moment, they just delivered the first remix package for 2010 incl. new versions from Joris Voorn, David Keno (Kindisch / Get Physical) and the up-and-coming sensational duo Orli & da Ragnio.
